About LVNG
What is LVNG?
A medical unit for obesity and metabolic health in Seville and Barcelona. We measure before acting, protect your muscle while you lose fat and design from day one how to keep the results.
How is it different from a diet or a slimming programme?
It is a medical programme. Before suggesting anything we measure your body composition, blood tests, strength and habits, and use them to design a plan for nutrition, exercise and, if indicated, medication.
The goal isn't only to lose weight but to lose fat while preserving muscle and reach a weight you can maintain.
Who is behind it?
Medical direction is by Dr Juan Fabiani de la Iglesia, a specialist in Family and Community Medicine, registration no. 414119259. In Barcelona we see patients at Centro Médico Ganduxer, whose medical director is Dr Luis Castilla Martí, an ophthalmologist with a PhD in Surgery and Morphological Sciences. You can read about their careers in About us.
Who is it for?
For adults with obesity, or who are overweight with a related complication, such as high blood pressure, raised glucose or cholesterol, fatty liver or sleep apnoea. The first consultation is there precisely to see whether the programme suits you.
Does it replace my family doctor?
No, it complements them. You receive a written report you can share with your family doctor or your specialists, and we coordinate with them if needed.
The programme
What is the first consultation like?
It lasts 30 minutes. We go over your history (weight through life, previous diets, sleep, stress and medication), measure body composition, strength, blood pressure and waist, and review your blood tests. You leave with a written plan and, if indicated, with treatment. We explain it step by step in How it works.
Do I need blood tests before starting?
If you have recent ones, we review them at the first consultation. If not, we give you the request form to have them done.
Why do you measure muscle and not just weight?
Because part of what you lose when slimming can be muscle, and muscle is key to your metabolism, your independence and your long-term health. Measuring it at the start and during the programme lets us adjust protein and training in time. We explain it in this article (in Spanish).
Which programme suits me?
It depends on what you already have covered. If you already work with a nutritionist or trainer, you can stay on the basic programme and we coordinate with them; if not, you choose the one that includes what you're missing. You can compare them in Compare programmes.
Can I change programme?
Yes. Each programme has a three-month minimum commitment; after that you can move up, down or change professionals every month.
Where can I see the prices?
In Programmes, with what each one includes.
What happens when I finish the programme?
You move on to LVNG Continuum, a maintenance plan with reviews further apart and an agreed threshold to act early if your weight starts rising again.
Treatment
Do I need medication to lose weight?
Not always. In each case we assess whether it is indicated, what benefits and risks it has for you and how it combines with nutrition and strength. If it is used, it comes with close follow-up and a plan from the start for when it is withdrawn.
Does the programme include the medicine?
No. If treatment is indicated, the medicine is bought at a pharmacy with a prescription. The programme includes the assessment, the prescription and the follow-up.
What side effects does it have?
The most common are digestive: nausea, diarrhoea or constipation, nearly always mild or moderate and mainly in the weeks when the dose goes up. That is why we message you 7-10 days after each increase and give you written warning signs to tell us about.
Can I take it if I have diabetes or other treatments?
We review this at the first consultation. Some diabetes medicines need to be stopped or reduced to avoid low blood sugar, and certain situations, such as advanced kidney disease, are assessed together with your specialist.
What if I'm trying to get pregnant?
These medicines are not used in pregnancy or breastfeeding, and must be stopped in advance if you are trying to conceive. We explain the exact timing according to your treatment.
What happens if I stop?
In the large trials, when the medicine is withdrawn a good part of the weight lost comes back. That is why the exit is agreed on day one. We explain it with the data in What happens when you stop treatment.

How do I make an appointment?
Right now appointments are full. You can leave your details in the booking form and we'll write to you as soon as we open the next ones, at the end of January.
Can I have the consultation in English or Italian?
Yes. The consultation, written plans and reports can be in Spanish, English or Italian.
Is there follow-up between visits?
Yes, by message and, if needed, by video consultation. We message you after each adjustment to the plan and if you miss an appointment.
